Those of you unfamiliar with rural England may be surprised at the scale involved. All of these villages are within easy walking distance of each other, for example it takes about half an hour to walk from Lodsworth to Midhurst at a steady pace. The population of the villages is often no more than 500, even now. This has resulted in local families intermarrying several times over the centuries.
